DIGITAL STORYTELLING
So far, digital storytelling was one of the most interesting tasks for me. It required us to record our voices and combine them with some visuals to create a digital story. We had some choices and chose PSA.
PSA's are videos that are made to inform the public about an important matter. They usually are not that long and understandably convey a message. We chose piracy as a message and wanted to tell people about why it is an important crime even though we overlook it. We tried to highlight the fact that it is an illegal act just like stealing from a shop, and that it should be considered as serious as any other stealing crime.
The process was both fun and hard, but eventually, we managed to end up with a nice PSA. First, we brainstormed an idea and tried to draft it, then we ended up with some lines and recorded our voices. Finally, we found some images and videos to visually support our message. iMovie is a great tool to create videos in both an amateur and a professional way. So using it was an advantage.
I believe, even though it was considerably harder to create, this was the most useful task we worked on so far. Because this kind of authentic material would be extremely handy in a classroom. It can support students' both audial and visual learning.
(Note to the instructor: Our video was longer than 1 minute, but I hope you would not mind it since we were a group of 4 💛)
