Podcasting As a Language Teaching Activity
Our task was to create a podcast of our choice with limited time. We chose to do a vox-pop. Though we were able to talk to around 15 people, our time limit enabled us to include 10 of them. We asked about their worst birthday gifts and the answers were pretty interesting.
Working from afar with my pair was pretty struggling but the process was extremely fun. We did not feel much stress because we already had enough time. Also, the sources were easy to find and the technical stuff was no big deal at all.
I definitely would give a similar task to my students. I believe this kind of activity gives the student the freedom of doing whatever they want (while also learning). They not only interact with the target language but also create content in the target language. In the process of teaching them, podcasts can be useful as well but I believe if the student works in the making of it, then it will be a lot more beneficial. While listening activities done with podcasts can help improve receptive skills, creating podcasts can help develop their productive skills. So in my opinion, it is a must-have activity, especially in our century.
